Single Use Plastics - Tasmania

As the World comes together to nurture our planet, Australia is doing their part in progressively banning single use plastics state-by-state, in line with the 2025 National Packaging Targets – but as each phase out rolls out, it can be very tricky to navigate. As a result, we will help break it down for you!

Here's where we're at for Hobart, Tasmania!

BANS Hobart has introduced a by-law for the City, which commenced 1 July 2021 and included:

  • Plastic cutlery

  • Sauce sachets

  • Plastic takeaway food containers and lids

  • Takeaway plastic straws

  • Plastic lined noodle boxes

  • Plastic lined coffee cups

  • Plastic lids on takeaway cups

  • Plastic sandwich wedges


  • Pre-packed fruit and vegetables

  • Pre-packed drinks and snacks

  • Non-food related plastics

  • Soft plastics and plastic bags
